G'day G'day Launch Pilots, I finished reading William Zinsserās book Writing About Your Life. He talks about how to write a memoir. Given that Iām writing my first book, I was interested in the process. Since Iāve been traveling a lot, I was stuck about how to write about places. I wanted to incorporate my journey across Southeast Asia in my book. Over the last 16 months, Iāve traveled to Vietnam, Singapore, Bali, and many more countries around the world. But every time Iād start to write about a place, Iād get stuck. When I re-read what I just wrote, it sounded boring. Just a series of facts about a place. There was no excitement or connection. And if I already find it boring, my audience will too. One of the main points he raises when writing about places is: āUltimately, itās people - memorable people - who make certain places stick in our minds forever. Look for those people, wherever you go, and tell us how their story intersected with your life.ā Boom. That was the missing link in my book. I was writing about WHERE when I should have been writing about WHO. This gave my writing another dimension. When I started to think about a place, Iād push myself to remember a person. Places donāt make people come alive. People make places come alive. Like James who I met in Hoi An. Or Joose who I met in Bangkok. This is no different to your product as a solopreneur. When you write only about your product, crickets. No one cares. Because people donāt resonate with a product. They resonate with a person behind the product. People buy from people. People buy because they resonate with you. People connect with:
If you forget the people, the place doesnāt matter. If you forget the people, the product doesnāt matter. People first. Everything else second. Letās Launch Together, Michael āpeople first approachā Lim *** P.S - Whenever youāre ready to Launch, here are 3 ways I can help you fire up the rocket ship:
