G’day G’day friends,

I’m going through a frustrating business season.

• My book has been delayed longer than I expected.
• Clients have churned at a higher rate during this summer slowdown.

I find myself bored by the lack of travel and adventure.

But I'm also tired of the travel and adventure that I've been doing.

The irony doesn't escape me.

That's why I felt so seen when I watched Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey.

Every monster in the Odyssey is an entrepreneurship lesson:

• Trapped in Polyphemus’s cave = one moment of pride can destroy decades of your life.
• Laestrygonians' Giants = There’s always a bigger and stronger opponent that can kill you.
• Calypso’s Island = comfort and pleasure will destroy your life more than hardship.
• Scylla and Charybdis = Every journey and every option is hard, and you will lose something. No decision in life has no downsides, trade-offs, or compromises.

The biggest monster in Odyssey is not any monster on the islands.

But what winning actually cost Odysseus.

By violating Zeus's law and his personal values, he lost everything.

His men, kingdom, and freedom.

This is why people need to understand the cost of winning in business.

Often, most entrepreneurs win at the expense of the relationships with people they love.

Or their mental and physical health.

But most entrepreneurs don't realize that until they've actually paid the price

That’s the sad reality of “winning” in business.

While I’m going through a tough business period, I realized:

• I’m working out every day.
• I’m eating a healthy lunch with friends every day.
• I can wake up every day to watch the sunset and sunrise.

My business is still growing year on year.

When you hit a rough period, focus on your progress and trajectory, not your current position.

This reminds me of a quote from my favorite book:

A reminder for anyone going through a tough time: keep going.

ntrepreneurship is hard.

But it’s one of the most rewarding things you can do.
