G'day G'day friends, After my trip in Timor-Leste, I had a revelation: I’m doubling down on learning Bahasa Indonesian. Everyone in Timor-Leste speaks Indonesian. I was able to chat with locals, order food, and ask questions. The way the locals' faces would light up when I spoke was amazing. I received an upgrade on my flights and discounts at local stores. (I never asked for them and most of the time I insisted on paying full price) My clients who flew me out were even more impressed. Don’t get me wrong. The journey to learn a new language has been really challenging. The only language I can speak is English. So I’ve not developed the skill of learning another language. One of the best pieces of advice I’ve had so far? Learn the 1,000 most commonly used words. And you can get pretty proficient in any language in less than 100 days. Will you be fluent overnight? Probably not. But you could probably hold basic conversations. And get by in your day-to-day life. If you learn 10 new words per day, in 100 days, you’d have a new skill in a language. Or do 5 and it’ll take 200 days. Whatever floats your boat. But this approach applies to more than just language learning. In business, look at what’s already selling and sell the same thing. In content, look at what’s already performing and create similar things. In sports, look at the technique that already works and copy it. You need to imitate before you can innovate. But so many solopreneurs want to be ground breaking. They spend months building something unique. And then can’t sell it to one person. Why? Because they never validated that people actually wanted it. Imagine if I went ahead and learned 1,000 random words in Bahasa Indonesia without knowing if this is what is commonly spoken among locals. Exactly. But this is the odd logic that every newbie solopreneur takes. They think as a beginner they know how to innovate immediately. Copy. Learn. And then innovate. Let’s Launch Together, Michael “learn fast, sell faster” Lim. *** P.S - Whenever you’re ready to Launch, here are 3 ways I can help you fire up your one-person business rocket ship:
