my immigrants parents taught me this 👨‍🏫

G'day G'day friends,

I'm the youngest child of Chinese-Singaporean immigrants.

When I was 3, my parents moved the family to Australia.

(I've got two older brothers).

They imagined a better life for us in the land down under.

Growing up, we saw our parents work every hour they could.

They always picked up extra shifts.

Never bought new clothes.

Always shopped when there were sales and discounts.

I'll never be able to repay my parents for their sacrifice and hard work.

One thing core thing I learned from my immigrant experience:

No one is coming to save you.

My parents moved to Australia with no financial safety net.

They didn't have a job lined up.

They weren't well educated (dropped out at 16).

Nor did they have family, friends, or a network.

The odds were stacked against them.

People in Singapore thought they were crazy to leave.

But they made it work.

How?

They created their own luck through being resourceful.

I'll always remember my mum telling us we had to sneak through a window if the front door was closed.

She forced us to get part-time got part-time jobs as soon as legally possible.

Even while studying.

I worked at KFC at 15.

My brothers worked as waiters in a restaurant.

This mindset serves me well as a solopreneur.

I don't have a big fancy logo, brand name, or large team to generate opportunity.

I'm forced to create my own luck.

And believe it or not, you can control the amount of luck you have in your life.

Late last year, I "cheated" my way into being a speaker at the largest business event in the world.

Read HERE about how I did it.

My immigrant parents taught me lessons about life no education or money could.

Let's Launch Together,

Michael ‘lucky charm’ Lim.
