Two weeks ago, I was at a conference in Singapore.

During one of the Q&A sessions of the keynote speeches

man stood up and said,

“My name is Michael Lim….”

My ears shot up.

I looked around, and my friends looked back at me.

My phone buzzed with others in the conference room telling me they heard another Michael Lim.

Out of the thousands of attendees in the room, we shared the same name.

This is the first time I’ve experienced this.

There was another Michael Lim at this exact conference.

I had to find my doppelganger.

And I found him indeed while queuing up for lunch:

We are separated by a couple of decades in age.

But it was surprising how much of our lives overlapped.

Singapore-born, lived in Melbourne, now back in Southeast Asia.

While we shared the same name, our expertise was wildly different.

Same name, very different expertise.

This is true for more than just sharing the same name.

It can be true for someone who is in the same industry as you.

This is the question I get from so many experts:

“What makes me so unique? Why would people buy from me?”

I see so many experts undersell themselves because they lack self-belief.

The long story short is that your expertise IS UNIQUE.

If you combined all your professional skills, passions, and interests together, you’d have zero people who are exactly the same as you.

That’s why I firmly believe everyone can become a solopreneur.

Especially if you’ve spent decades working in one industry and sector.
