Gâday friends, Last week, I was in so much pain. I had a bad flare up of plantar fasciitis. My flat feet and stiff big toe means my foot doesnât absorb shock well. So when I exercise too much, my foot suffers. It got so bad I woke up with searing pain at 3:32am. I thought someone had stabbed my foot with a hot knife. Walking wasnât an option. I had to crawl to my kitchen to get the anti-inflammatory meds. (It was ibuprofen, not durians... unfortunately). I swallowed those bad boys so quickly. The next day I went to see a podiatrist. He shot electric waves into my foot. I wonât lie, it hurt. Like, a lot. But this experience gave me some perspective. When I was fully-abled, I wanted everything. Making more money, growing my business, and traveling the world. But when my foot was in so much pain and I couldnât even walk, I got perspective. I craved basic life pleasures.
I would have given anything just for the basics. This reminded me of a quote by Naval Ravikant: "A sick man only has one desire. A healthy man has 1,000 desires" The feeling was no different to when I was a fancy Executive Director with a multi-six-figure salary but incredibly burned out. The pain of burnout sucked. I wanted just to make enough money to live a good life. I would have traded in the fancy title and made less money for a better lifestyle. I wanted:
