There’s a book club in Bali I go to every couple of weeks.

It’s one of the best things ever.

A group full of people who love books just as much as I do.

Last night, we spoke about The Almanac of Naval Ravikant

One of my favourite books (and people) ever.

I learn SO much from this 2 hour conversation.

• The exploration of ideas.
• The telling of stories and experiences.
• Each member challenging each other’s opinions.

I’m a massive nerd when it comes to books.

But for a long time, I never had anyone to talk about books.

I felt lonely and isolated in Melbourne.

Friends and family couldn’t understand why I enjoyed reading so much.

Or why I became obsessed with self-improvement and ideas.

People told me I was strange for highlighting and writing in my book.

So, I started to hide my reading habit.

Like you would a dirty drug habit.

But being in Bali, I no longer have to do that.

In this environment, everyone loves to read and challenge themselves.

I’m surrounded by people who push me to grow and expand myself.

In this environment, my growth has skyrocketed.

I no longer feel so alone, embarrassed, or shameful for reading.

James Clear has a great way of putting this:

If you put yourself in the right environment, growth becomes inevitable.

Hang around smokers, you’ll become a smoker.

Hang around runners, you’ll become a runner.

Humans adapt to their environment.

Ask yourself:

Does your environment help you get closer or further away from your goals?

For 80% of people, I would say no.

Because 80% of people abandon their goals by the end of February.

You don’t need to move countries like I did.

But you do have to get into the right rooms and environment.
