I love playing poker.

My dad taught me to play the game when I was 12.

By 14, I was playing with adults for real money.

(much to my mum’s disapproval).

Growing up, I wanted to be a professional poker player.

I loved the strategy, thinking, and maths behind it.

I was even mentored by a professional poker player at 16.

He told me the real secret to succeeding at poker.

Can you guess what it is?

Storytelling.

A successful bluff is nothing but a great fictional story you are selling.

Through your behaviour and betting pattern, you need to convince your opponent of a false story.

They need to believe in your story before they can fold.

If they don’t believe you, they are calling your bluff.

And you’re going to lose the hand (and a lot of money, too).

So, whether in poker or business, storytelling is the #1 skill you need to learn.

The elements of all great stories:

• Relatable character has a goal.
• An inciting incident happens.
• There’s a reluctance to answer the call for adventure.
• Character goes on the adventure.
• Character encounters struggle.
• Character overcomes struggles and wins.
• Character learns something and changes for the better.

That’s the foundation of every story ever told.

Think of all your favourite movies.

I guarantee they follow this script.

If you don’t have your solopreneur story, create one.

The customers you want to serve are on the other side of the solopreneur story you’re not telling.
