I was at a swanky VIP business dinner in Singapore. But I’m not a special person. I was a tag-along. The event was a small group dinner. There were 12 seasoned entrepreneurs in their 40s-50s. I was the youngest in the room. Everyone had a lot to share. But one particular person shared what they did. Everything they talked about was their company's product.
Okay, the last one was made up. But they went on and on for 20 minutes. By the end, I asked my friend who brought me to the dinner: “Do you understand what they do?” He replied: “No idea. And I’ve known them for years.” But I gave them the benefit of the doubt. Maybe they were nervous. So, when I got the chance, I asked more questions. I wanted to get them talking. Perhaps I missed something. I'm a bit slow. But even after asking follow-up questions, I still had no clarity. So I asked straight out: What problem do you solve for your customers? Their answer? "We built this product, we use this software, and implement this framework." More blah, blah, blah. I left the conversation even more confused. And slightly worried that their business was either a scam or not profitable. (or both). My initial skepticism was turned into full-blown suspicion. I got Elizabeth Holmes of Theranos vibes. If I couldn't understand their offer, how would their potential customers? I'm not saying I'm smarter, but sales and marketing is my jam. A confused mind doesn't buy. A confused mind hesitates. Requires more information. And they need to talk to their lawyer and dog. And then they tell you: "I still need more time to think about it". You'll probably never hear from them again. Solopreneurs fall into this trap. They overcomplicate their offers. They try to be Everything to Everyone. Do that, and you'll become Nothing to No One. A mediocre offer will get you your first $1k p/m A great offer will get you to $5k p/m and beyond. This is what we work on in my Launch to 5k Inner Circle Mentorship. In week one, you'll work 1:1 with me to get clear on your offer. Then, over the next 16 weeks, we jump on weekly community calls with other legends to get you to 5k recurring. Inner Circle is not for everyone. Reply "OFFER" and I'll send the deets to see if you fit the program. Doors close in 5 days. Stay Limitless, Michael "be clear, not clever" Lim |
